Frank B. Gibb, III
Chairman Emeritus
Frank co-founded Godsey & Gibb Wealth Management in February 1985 with the goal of making wealth management services more accessible to individuals and their families. At the time, investment management services were available to the ultra-rich, but stockbrokers were the primary option available to most. He created Godsey & Gibb with the vision of an investment firm where the client and their objectives drove the relationship and where personal relationships would be the companion to professional investment management.
Both Frank and his business partner quickly built the firm’s research capabilities, calling upon the institutional relationships Frank had built throughout the prior fifteen years of his professional trust and investment career. Using proprietary modeling, the firm’s research staff selected stocks and bonds to use within client portfolios with the objective of providing investment results consistent with each client’s risk parameters and long-term goals. This included a focus on owning companies with good management, low debt levels, predictable earnings, and dividend growth. These companies tended to have less price volatility, especially in challenging economic times.
Frank began his career in trusts and investments in 1970 and spent most of his career specializing in equity and fixed income investment management for both taxable and nontaxable portfolios, with a primary emphasis on family assets, trusts, and foundations. Prior to founding Godsey & Gibb Wealth Management, Frank held several senior management positions with major Virginia and Tennessee trust and investment institutions. In addition, he has served on numerous bank management and asset/liability committees. While retired, Frank continues to consult with a small number of businesses in the U.S. and Europe.
A graduate of Lynchburg College with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Frank followed his undergraduate degree with graduate studies at the College of William and Mary.
Outside of the office, Frank enjoys spending time with his wife, Brenda, as well as visiting with his three adult sons and granddaughter. In addition, he can regularly be found working on his cattle farm, tending to his vegetable garden, or traveling. Frank is also deeply involved with community philanthropic efforts. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Clabough Foundation. In addition, he has served on the Board of Trustees of the University of Lynchburg and as a member of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) Business Council.
